Movie Night At The Museum- The Big Trail (1930)
Tue Aug 26 2025
At 7:00 PM

Where:

Northwest Montana History Museum
124 Second Ave. E. Kalispell, MT

Description:

The Northwest Montana History Museum invites you to saddle up as a true classic, The Big Trail (1930), returns to the big screen. This sweeping Western epic follows a determined group of pioneers as they journey from the Mississippi River to the untamed West, led by rugged fur trapper Breck Coleman—portrayed by a then-unknown John Wayne in his first leading role. Along the way, the group faces harsh blizzards, perilous terrain, and dangerous encounters, all while Coleman hunts the man who murdered his mentor.

Celebrated for its groundbreaking use of widescreen cinematography and filmed on location across seven states—including Montana’s own National Bison Range—The Big Trail is as visually stunning as it is historically significant. With themes of revenge, resilience, and romance, this early Western continues to captivate audiences nearly a century later.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Westerns or discovering classic cinema for the first time, The Big Trail has something for everyone. The screening will take place on Tuesday, August 26, in the Swanberg Classroom located at the Northwest Montana History Museum, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. It will feature prescreening educational remarks by our host Jacob Thomas. Admission and popcorn are free, with soda, water, beer, and wine available for purchase. Seating is provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own cushions or chairs for added comfort.
