About 15 minutes northwest of Missoula, the community of Frenchtown was founded by French-Canadian settlers. Situated along the Clark Fork River in a valley called qua elth (meaning state of tranquility) by American Indian inhabitants, Frenchtown State Park—a 5-acre park featuring a spring-fed lake with a variety of fish—is a fantastic place for beginners to practice kayaking and canoeing. Frenchtown also offers a relaxing game of golf paired with great scenery and Montana’s famous western hospitality.
