Dillon is a small, western town surrounded by snow-capped mountains and situated in a sweeping valley where the Big Hole and Beaverhead rivers converge. Both blue-ribbon trout streams, the Beaverhead River is a favorite for expert fly-fishers, and the Big Hole River offers breathtaking views through the Wise River Canyon. Dillon also boasts eclectic shops, art galleries, spas, salons, hiking trails, restaurants and saloons. The Beaverhead County Museum in Dillon is devoted to preserving our local history. Located just southwest of Dillon is Bannock, the country’s best-preserved ghost town and now a state park. A nationally registered historic landmark, Bannack was the Montana Territory’s first state capital and the site of Montana's first major gold discovery on July 28, 1862. Over 50 buildings line Main Street, recalling Montana's formative years.
