The Glacier County Historical Museum offers exhibits on homesteading, the Lewis and Clark expedition in the area, Glacier National Park artist John L. Clark, the Blackfeet culture, oil boom years starting in the 1930s, railroading, and more. This 14-acre site includes historic structures like the Hegg Family oil worker’s house, a 1936 oil derrick, 1917 Marias schoolhouse, 1981 BN caboose, 1915 replica of the Lois Malty house and farm, and the 1901 P.P. Lee Mercantile.
The rotating exhibit area in the collection care building currently offers exhibits on Glacier National Park—telling the story of the 1910 Great Northern Railroad construction camp of Fielding and showing a vacation experience through photographs of local homesteader Lois Malty as she traveled through the park in 1915 with her family.
Don't miss the One-on-One With a Historian tours (Lewis and Clark, Homesteading, and Oil Camp Life), History Where it Happened tours (field trips on Railroading and Homesteading), and Overnight in History (in the BN Caboose, Maltby Homestead, and Hegg Family oil worker house).
It’s #NationalParkWeek and we want to hear your park story about our fave place, @GlacierNPS. Tweet a fun GNP memor… https://t.co/weKGsEahil
