Description:
The Confluence Center (Western Montana's Home for Nonprofit Events) art program Torrents is thrilled to present TWO magical evenings of art and community! This month, due to the July holiday weekend, we will host a Soft Opening on First Friday, July 5th, a quiet evening of our new exhibits for those still in town. And then we will host our Grand Opening second Friday July 12th, complete with live music and refreshments. This month we are pleased to present two separate yet cohesive exhibits by three amazing Montana women artists.
In the main gallery area will be presented An Inward Gaze, a solo show by painter Jennifer Baylis. Stylistically Baylis’ oil paintings combine classical realism with expressive painterly qualities, primarily depicting figural subjects. Baylis’ current series grew out of the emotional and spiritual coming to terms with her mothers Alzheimer’s disease and declining health. The resistance of her figures averted gazes brought her awareness to the inevitable, and invites the viewer to analyze what they choose to avoid.
The second exhibited body of work, Moving Through, features mixed media artist Katrina Ruhmland and painter Gail Trenfield. Each artist, while vastly different in style and approach, takes us on a journey of connected threads. Ruhmland explores the survival of time through past, present, and future and the cores which bind us. Meanwhile, Trenfield also explores the passage of time and the unsettling passing of our natural world, whether in slow motion or shocking immediacy.
Both openings (July 5th and 12th) will take place at the Confluence Center at 119 W Main St, Missoula, MT, and run 5-8pm.The exhibits will remain on display through July 27th, and can be seen by appointment through the Center: 406-926-6526
