A short dedication ceremony will be held this Saturday. This is a private structure. Future public access may be limited. This is an opportunity for people to see the structure, hear and visit with John Maclean as he discusses its past.

Note: The Boy Scout Bridge remains closed causing access to be from the north across from Clearwater Heights Condos. On-site parking and maneuvering is limited. Maclean driveway is the first one north of Seeley Lake Campground (known by some oldtimers as Hotel Point.)

The Maclean icehouse at Seeley Lake, which is in distressed but recoverable condition, is
an iconic reminder of a past era when backcountry buildings were made by hand by the hardy,
independent people who lived and worked in them, long before electricity reached these places.
It functioned as an icehouse for many decades, into the 1950s, and is said to be the last intact
icehouse in the region. The Seeley Lake Historical Society hopes to include the icehouse on a
tour of historic places around the lake, once it has been restored. The icehouse is mentioned in
Home Waters: A Chronicle of Family and a River, a memoir by John N. Maclean, grandson of
the man who built it, the Rev. John N. Maclean.
