Western Montana is home to many packs of gray wolves that are an important part of the ecosystem, though it's not likely you'll spot one. Wolves are known for their stamina and a pack's territory usually covers 200 square miles. They are capable of covering several miles at a pace of about 6 miles per hour and have been known to reach speeds of around 40 miles per hour. Their diet is typically made of the meats of grazing animals, smaller rodents and even berries. For more, visit Montana Field Guide.
